Beautifully said! I just started writing beyond my personal platforms and its as if its pouring out of me like a waterfall that has been unknowingly damned up for decades. At this point it has become a need to write and create - looking forward to sampling the book!
It’s nice to read how you feel about creating. I love everything I do. I only feel a bit odd when friends look at what I do. They don’t understand my computer work and they can’t see any value in my physical scrap books full of stickers and affirmations.
Thanks for sharing this, Val. That's wonderful that you love your own creations! Inspiring to read.
I know a lot of people struggle even with the thought of loved ones seeing what they've made. (Me included!) I totally understand why people keep it private or don't show family and friends. They're probably not the people who would connect with our work anyway.
I'm sorry you've had that response from people that they don't see value in your work. That's tough to hear. But it sounds like you keep creating anyway which is the main thing
I can so relate to this! You articulate that feeling so well. I am trying to prioritise writing as much as I can this week. I find that when I get out of the habit it’s hard to start again but two days and counting x
I definitely find that too, Rebecca. The resistance is stronger the longer the gap! I think it's about starting in the smallest way possible isn't it? Even just a sentence or two (even though our brains will tell us that's not 'enough') Hopefully you're on day three now :D
Ah I loved this Janelle and yes your inner thoughts definitely resonate with me. I have limited time within my week and I reserve a vast proportion of it to creativity which sometimes feels indulgent/wasteful/unnecessary…but quite the contrary I have to make it a priority, it feels like a way of honouring myself, thank you for the evidence to back up the feeling! xx
Thank you Lyndsay. We do have to make it a priority. It's important. My hope is that when we honour ourselves like this and meet our needs, we're in a much better and more compassionate place to do this for others too. The evidence was fascinating to read about...although somehow not surprising. Often it was like...oh of course!
Me too! It only occurred to me recently so I'm going to practise thinking more like this! It is definitely good for us. I'm sure I can feel it if I haven't had a creative outlet for a while.
So true, Janelle. And so validating, thank you. I remember hearing Jeanette Winterson say, 'Writing is what I'm for'. Because she has to is the same. And those inner voices that want to stop us do start to get bored when we keep on having to x
Thank you for reading, Angela. I'm so glad it's resonated. Thanks for sharing Jeanette Winterson's quote too. Although she'd definitely be one of those 'real' writers my inner critic tries to compare me to! Yeah I'm hoping my inner voices are just getting quieter and quieter now until I don't notice them! Keep on going with your writing. You're in a tough stage now of putting the creation out there but proud of you for continuing to back yourself.
I have the same voices in my ear ALL the time. I use Grammarly and it recently told me that I had written more than 10 million words in less than two years (actually, that it has assessed and corrected over 10 million words). Still, I have written more than 10 million words and that doesn't include my handwritten journals. I thought 'Huh, perhaps I am a writer'. In that moment all the voices fled and I was able to celebrate. Celebrate yourself!
Oh my goodness. You are prolific, Sharon! That's amazing. I'm pretty sure you are the definition of a writer/ someone who has to write. Thanks for reminding me to celebrate myself. It doesn't have to be the BIG milestones does it? There are lots of things I could be better at recognising
I do love the concept. Although it seems mine have time limits and I have to keep re-issuing them! ha. I hope you've given yourself the slips you need too, Kylie-Ann <3

Ah that feeling of flow! It can be so wonderful. Enjoy it and let your creations run free

Yes so totally and utterly this! And yes I’m sure, it makes complete sense xx
Loved the idea of thinking about creativity like we do going for a run! It’s good for us!!

Love this Janelle. ❤️ sometimes a permission slip to ourselves is just what we need.
