"Made sure to note what I HAD completed as well as thinking about what I hadn’t" - Biggest thank you for that, that's brilliant, and so easily overlooked.

You're welcome, Chloe. I need to keep taking my own advice on this one this week!

I'm great at adding stuff to my to do list but I'd like to also think about my 'done' list.

I’m reading a book at the moment and I keep wondering if you might enjoy it. It was written in 1914, which amazes me, it’s called Practical Mysticism by Evelyn Underhill. It’s kind of rocking my world.

I loved reading this, learning to think about future me with compassion (as well as present me) has been a really important learning for me.

It’s not just about knowing what my needs are, but understanding and accepting them that allows me to make choices that support me. Thankyou for sharing how you look after your future self.

Thank you, Louise. And thanks for sharing a bit about your learnings too. Acceptance is a big one I'm still working on. But I think being able to name what's happening in the first instance is a big one isn't it?

It is the biggest! If we don’t recognise what is going on we don’t get the chance to make a choice about how we respond.

Knowledge is the first step, without it we can’t understand or accept.

In that sense, it is definitely important to listen to our own mind and body, slow down, and take time for ourselves to rest and recharge. Ultimately, we do need to place our own mental and physical health and wellbeing above our other priorities and wants.

That's right. It's interesting that it's not always a given that we can identify our own needs.

I think one main reason is because we're so caught up with work and responsibilities that we don't even think about slowing down and being more mindful.

This resonated so much Janelle. I’ve had a very similar extroverted week and left feeling like my battery is empty too. Thankfully I had a lovely restful weekend! Hope this week is more restful for you ❤️

Thanks Hannah. I hope you've had some rest opportunities yourself? I'm still feeling it tbh! But grateful that I've got some space to rest.

I'm sure the onset of winter and the darker days really impact my energy levels too

I can relate to that feeling of pushing oneself too hard and then wondering why the energy crash comes as a surprise. It's wonderful to see your growth and self-acceptance in recognizing your own limits and planning accordingly. You've set a great example of self-compassion.

Thank you Winston. It's validating to know we're not alone in these experiences.

I've still got a way to go! But I'm also glad I can recognise progress.

I really appreciated this post and the reminder to prioritize my own needs. I feel like I am on low battery as well, as we have been traveling a lot for weddings this month and have a lot more travels through the end of the year. I'm going to make an effort to only say yes to things that light me up and protect my energy.

You're welcome, Reid.

I think a big learning for me is that just because I want to go to something and it's wonderful and fun, doesn't mean I won't feel it afterwards. Things like weddings and celebrations for instance! Previously I almost wouldn't let myself be 'tired' afterwards because it doesn't count as 'effort'. I hope you've got some chances to take care of your needs coming up.

I thanked past me this week because I'd booked a massage and completely forgot about it. The week I'd had was tough and when I saw that in my diary I was so grateful 🥲

I LOVE THIS!

A gift from your past self. What a brilliant bit of foresight there, Susan.

I'm sorry you've had a tough week. I hope you're doing okay and that the massage helped

As an extroverted duracell bunny who on top of that suffers of a great deal of FOMO this was like a soothing balm to read.

I definitely crash and burn because of it but slightly less now (age perhaps? Growth?).

And then I'm curious about the Anti-racism summit. Read about it in Nova Reids newsletter.

Lot's of food for thought in you post to my inner Duracell Bunny 😊

Yes, the FOMO is real, Carina! And also the guilt about saying 'no' to stuff. But I'm very fortunate to have such loving friends who don't add to the guilt.

Definitely sign up to the Anti-Racist Cumbria newsletter if you're interested in learning more. It's an incredible organisation and I feel really fortunate to have found this community. The team is role modelling courage, bravery, speaking truth to power and collective healing. https://antiracistcumbria.org/

Well done for taking care of yourself so thoughtfully, Janelle - I love how practical and tangible these things you did for yourself are as examples. Loads of food for thought for me there! I've got an intense couple of weeks coming up and one of the things I need to think about more is how to carve out some more alone time and protect it in my calendar; it makes such a difference to me and can so easily fall by the wayside if I'm not careful. So very serendipitously timed, and as ever I love your generosity in sharing your process with us!
