This started a much needed cry that had been annoyingly stuck for a little while. I have no idea *why* since nothing you have said bears any resemblance to what I am crying about, but thank you 😂.

I could feel it fighting it’s way out, I was fighting back, and then you said “I married the boy who dumped me” (aaaaand there I go again).

Maybe it’s a way of saying “it’s okay, things could get better”? I don’t know but as always, I am thankful for your writing & love spending Sunday mornings learning more about you. I’m going to go finish reading it now ❤️

Oh Cyrene. You'll have me crying in a minute, too!

I take this as the highest of compliments. Thank you for your beautiful comment. Sometimes a good cry is the shift of energy we need.

It's magical in a way that we can create something and then another person can find something in it that we had no idea was there.

I hope the rest of your Sunday was nourishing for you x

This is so lovely, so happy-sad-happy; just like Adele's wonderful songs. The artist of my life has to be George Michael and every time I hear one of his songs I still can't believe he's not here anymore.

Thank you so much, Debs.

Aw George Michael. Thank you for sharing yours.

When you hear him singing it doesn't make sense that he's gone does it?

I can only imagine all the memories and life milestones that are tied up for you in his art.

like you and Adele, George and I 'grew up' together; through all those crazy Wham! moments, sipping cocktails by swimming pools and laughing as though we meant it whilst masking what we truly felt - right to the last melodies with pain and loss in every note.

I literally just got goosebumps reading this, Debs. I felt it

I love Adele and I love all the stories in this post. I don't want to be cliché but if I had an "artist of my life" it would probably be Taylor Swift. I can remember discovering her very first song, crying to my first "love" to Breathe on her Fearless album, and feeling like I was coming up for air listening to Folklore and Evermore in 2020.

Well we can both be cliches, Ashton! Me with Adele and you with Taylor <3

I adore how you speak about your connection to her songs. I know this feeling! It's quite magical how songs can crack up open like this.

I'm not sure I have an artist of my life, but I do have to say that I return to Adele again and again because she just moves me every single time I hear her voice. I saw her once when she came to Vancouver on her tour several years ago and I'm pretty sure I had tears in my eyes the entire show. 🤍

Well obviously I agree with every word of this, Whitney!

Oh wow. That's amazing that you've seen her too. Tears of sadness for the songs and I'm sure tears of laughter for some of her potty mouthed stories :')

It's amazing how she switches between heartbreak and hilarity at her gigs.

Janelle, we ALSO played at our own wedding in our old band, Captain and the Kings!

So much to vibe with in this letter.

The artist of my life is Stevie Nicks.

Fleetwood Mac formed the soundtrack to my childhood as my mum's favourite band, then in adolescence, my own fascination with her/them began when The Corrs covered Dreams in 1998. Rumours has been my LIFE! And now I'm at a certain point in midlife, a day rarely goes by without a wee Landslide moment... Thanks for kicking this discussion off. Lots of lovely replies from others, too.x

Aw fantastic, Lindsay! I bet that was incredibly special. Both of you were in the band!?

Ah Steve Nicks. I love reading a little bit about how her voice has soundtracked the eras of your life.

I adore Rumours.

I almost don't want to admit this (ha) but I discovered Fleetwood Mac via Glee! They did a whole episode and I was like...what are these songs!? Then I was hooked.

Landslide....wow.

Yeah it's been wonderful to read the responses and discover people's musical histories.

This is SO lovely - got all emotional reading this. It’s just wonderful to hear your connection with an artist. I think it’s such an important part of experiencing life - music. I think I have various artists of my life throughout my life so far. Lana Del Rey bring one of them 💕

Yeah picking one is a huge ask! I have so many others tbh but I think Adele would be top of the pyramid. Love to hear about how Lana Del Rey's music has been one of your life soundtracks.

The artist of my life is Brody Dalle. She made a weird, bullied kid believe they could survive school and become the person they wanted to be. She’s tattooed on my arm so she’s always with me and so I always remember that the most important thing is being myself and to not dull my shine so people like me or so I fit in more. 🖤☠️❤️

I LOVE THIS!! Thank you for sharing, Becky.

Imagine having such a profound impact on someone through your artistry? Goosebumps!

This is even more moving having just read your powerful Mental Health Awareness piece.

I have never heard of Brody but I've currently got 'Don't Mess With Me' on and ngl this is the exact mood music I need this morning.

I'm so pleased that you're no longer dulling your glorious shine.

Definite goosebumps at that thought! I hope Brody and Adele and Taylor and George and all the others know/knew the power they artistry has. They created work that are life changers and, sometimes, a life savers.

Thank you so much for reading my article. Your support means so much. 🖤

I am glad you are enjoying Brody and she’s the music you need today!

Thank you. Me too. 🖤❤️

Love this, Janelle. Passion for the music and the moment. It’s that human connection to deeper memories and emotions that remind us of our own Adele. X

I had no idea you sang in a band! That’s so great that you performed at your wedding. I decided not to at mine, but everyone was asking if I would.

Don’t think I have an artist of my life in the same way, but I adore Tori Amos’ album ‘Little Earthquakes’. So many of those songs spoke to me when I was making big decisions about my career change.

I did! I'll have to share more about this at some point. I'm always singing :D (Although not really in the band anymore - too tiring these days!)

It was inevitable that I'd do a couple haha. I can totally understand why you'd want to be off duty for your big day though. I handed over to the incredible New York Brass Band who provided the most fantastic and sweaty evening of dancing.

Ooh I'm going to have a listen to this album, thanks Hannah. I love how songs and albums become tied up with periods of our lives like this.
