Hello you,
If you are a joy seeker, creator, dreamer, silly sausage, nature lover, cheerleader…then read on my friend!
I’m Janelle (she/her), a sensitive, creative soul who lives in rural Lancashire, having moved here from Manchester in 2022.
The move from city to countryside had a profound impact on me, particularly in igniting my curiosity and passion for noticing nature and understanding my energy levels.
I am celebrating the era of having many strings to my bow! Embracing creativity, practising joy, curiosity and play.

If you’ve decided it’s time to stop trying so hard, to stop striving, you may have found a kindred spirit here.
If you’re slowly, messily discovering your own rhythms.
If you’re learning to finally trust that your life is a constant ebb and flow.
And if you’re learning to love the imperfect, mess of wonderful you. Then you might find something in my writing.
Also HI SAME. You’re so welcome here.
I hope my letters feel a bit like this…
I’ve been writing here since 2023. Without intending to, I’ve documented some of my wild emotional ride from ‘early thirties’ to ‘late thirties’.
I write about seeking joy, burnout, nature, creativity and other things that catch my ever-wandering attention.
Someone once said “Your writing and feels like a hug”. Pretty much the greatest compliment I’ve ever received! Should I just quit, now? No, because writing is the love of my life.
Writing is my rock, my constant. That’s why I called this page ‘because she has to’.

Kind words from readers
“Janelle's writing is always a perfect blend of authenticity, thought, empathy and imagination - her weekly emails are a pleasure to read!” - Jae Auxjera
“I am always delighted when another of Janelle's letters appears in my inbox. Her gentle voiceovers are a treat, too, carrying me along ruddier climbs and unexplored valleys as she engages wholeheartedly as much with the nature on her doorstep as with the voice within.” - Lindsay Johnstone
