After two weeks of sunrises and glorious ocean sunsets, I’m back in Lincolnshire which is its most grey this morning. My soul is quiet, reflective rather than gloom-laden but your post has still sparked it to lift with joy, Joy that there have been bright dazzling mornings here too, joy at the anticipation they’ll be back soon, a noticing that it is already lighter in the morning here. And pausing to look out into the greyness I’ve noticed a new flourishing just beginning - the white of a crown of hellebores in a corner, a carpet of winter aconites appearing gold just below me, and peak of Bergenia pink and a few nodding heads of daffodils ready for the sunshine. (Or it feels like it). But, thank you for inviting me to pay attention to and notice beauty and hope. Yesterday I saw daffodil stems, waiting. I saw bulbs coming up in pots even though I haven't planted any this time. I had a still encounter with a blackbird on a wall, and noticed the beautiful yellow outline of their eye.
Yes, we love a spectacular sky. But there is so much else to be awed by, isn't there?
I really like how you describe the dawn as a "reprieve, a breath, a tenderness." I find the dawn to be beautiful combination of so many things in Nature. Dawn is quiet as first, but the sounds of Nature stir as the Sun continues rising. And most interesting if I look around carefully, I see different aspects of Nature crossing paths like nocturnal wildlife returning to their dens and roosts while others stir and awake and move about. I did see the silhouette of a barn owl which was lovely as ever.
And there are red grouse around there too which make quite a distinctive noise!
