Low energy battery🔋
The piece I wrote got deleted, so here's a video instead! It's about having low energy, how it impacts me and what I've been doing. Plus, a cute cat and other stuff.
Hello you,
How’s your week been?
I’ve been feeling LOW on the energy front. Cup = empty.
I even wrote a little piece about it. But tech gremlins decided that it should not exist!
I was so PEEVED it got deleted that I refused to write it again. I made a little video instead.
It’s all about this depleted phase after an intense social time; including what happens to me and how I’m getting better at dealing with it.
Posting it feels totally criiinge. So, in the spirit of Amie McNee I’m going to lean into the cringe and share it!
I also asked Substack peeps for tips and there are some gooduns here. (Quite heavily cat themed).
Energy chat goes hand in hand with thinking about rest, doesn’t it? So I’m always getting curious about this.
I’d highly recommend reading Rest is Resistance by Tricia Hersey (affiliate link) on this subject. It will have to be another day that I share proper thoughts but she has definitely made me consider how rest can take different forms for us other than ‘lying down’.
E.g. I drove myself to a nearby beauty spot one morning this week and it was sooo soothing, peaceful and nourishing.
I was very grateful to the clump of grass which supported me as I sat looking out at Beacon Fell, taking in the sounds and smells. I did have to climb a bit of a hill but it was worth it. This, for me, was a form of rest.
I also mention at the end of my video that cross stitching is something I discovered during lockdown. I find it relaxing and it keeps me sitting still but I’m still being ‘productive’. (Ew, I know).
I made this for little baby A. I hope she likes it.
This week’s letter also goes out to our cat, Victor! Also known as Vic or Vicvic. He’s the most wonderful companion for naps. And he’s a very good role model when it comes to protecting energy.
How are your energy levels atm? Does any of this ring true for you?
Thanks for spending some of your precious time here with Vic and I.

Love this and relate so much & also to your other posts, don’t use this site much but I do read when you post especially when it’s about writing & being burnt out etc 😅
My battery is also very low. I'm a teacher, currently entering into my summer break and typically find myself crashing for several days before I feel like myself again. This summer I'm taking a slightly different route and actually working part time. Normally I don't work at all, but this year I feel like I need something, some project to put myself into. It won't be school related of course, which I think is a good thing. Sitting too still for too long is not good for me. I fall into ruts of scrolling, sleeping too many hours, and not getting enough fresh air. It's not always easy finding the rest I need, but I do know that it changes all the time. Sometimes I just need quiet, while other times I need new scenery. I think it's important to spend time doing the things that bring you back to yourself, whatever that may be. I also really loved the video idea. I think you should do more 'cringe'. It's kinda inspired me to maybe try that route. I'm still learning substack and all the things it allows us to do.
I love seeing how other people are showing up here! Thank you for sharing!
