Oh Janelle I have been thinking about this exact thing so much at the moment. I have been in the UK for two weeks, and it feels like MONTHS - all the activities and opportunities that have been grabbed with both hands, the long days that feel so elastic. At home weeks swing around so fast and I was wondering what one can do to introduce the wonder that being here seems to crowd into my days.

I will definitely try the novel approach you have suggested!

It's fascinating how that happens isn't it? I'm thrilled to hear you've had such a jam packed and exciting time on your trip. I'm sure you'll need some good downtime and processing time when you get home. But then yes, it's good to think about how we can ensure our days don't all blur into one I suppose. Take care!

I love this. You've captured that magic of camping so well. I used to camp in our back garden often with one of my school friends and it was so exciting to be outside. We cooked our food on the fire about three metres from the actual kitchen window, and put potatoes in foil in the embers so we could wake up for a midnight feast later on! My husband camps at the end of our garden for a night or two each summer and brews himself a dawn-ish coffee on his little stove. Perhaps it's time I joined him. I've been too welded to my comfy bed next door to the bathroom!

That's so interesting about a novel thing in our day helping time to slow, thank you for that I'll ponder some more how to introduce things which are out of normal routine.

Oh I love those memories of you and your friend camping out. I can imagine that was so magical. And the freedom of having your own private 'no grown ups' space when you're that age is vital isn't it? If you ever fancied it, I'd love to read more about this.

Great to hear your partner does this too. I thought I was being a bit odd! Definitely go and join him! (Unless it's a solo thing for him too!) Thank you, Lou.

Lovely post Janelle, sounds like it really refreshed you.

Thanks so much, Sian. It really did! I'll definitely have to do it again. I picked the right weekend too. It's blowing a gale now!

I used to camp loads too as a kid. I haven't done it for years now. Such a cosy and nostalgic weekend you had.

I really did. There's even a patch of yellowed grass there now to show for it.

We used to camp in the garden as kids and I have such happy memories (also memories of waking up with one leg wet and cold outside the tent). Lovely post!

How did you manage that!? :')

Thank you, glad it brought some nostalgia for you, Keris.

The ground sheet (?) wasn’t attached (this was the 70s) so my leg went out under the tent 😂

I love this Janelle. I have tried to embrace camping, but it has so far eluded me. I enjoy home comforts too much! I do have similar fond memories of caravanning as a child though. My inner child has also needed some nourishment this week. I was able to visit a wild flower farm and follow the butterflies and attempt to fly a kite. Any other ideas gratefully received. 🙏💫

Ah thank you, Louise!

These sound like some idyllic moments. It's hard to remember the thrill of seeing these things through our young eyes. But we can certainly try!

I did find this list of ideas earlier. Not all of them are speaking to me but I might try out a few! https://tinybuddha.com/blog/25-little-changes-to-make-the-day-more-exciting/

I love this so much but I can't think of single thing to do! Which is probably a sign I really need to do more novel things. I will try your suggestions and then get thinking. Thank you, Janelle. 🖤✨

Thanks Becky!

This could actually be quite a fun writing prompt in itself to list random ideas...I might have a think.

There are also some fun lists like this one https://tinybuddha.com/blog/25-little-changes-to-make-the-day-more-exciting/ (Just ignore the ones that aren't for us introverts!)

That list is awesome! I find it intriguing how many of those things I do and my kids are constantly “awww Mommmmmm” - the taking random photos and complimenting strangers in particular - so maybe the thing is to lean into the cringe... maybe that brings us closer to the gold... ?

I think you might be right, Nicola!

I've actually just been writing something about how annoying I used to find it that my Mum took so many photos. But now what a gift they are. Yeeaah let's lean into our humanity and our cringe!
